Pope Leo

If they wanted a Pope named Leo they could have called me instead of a guy who has to pretend. But still, I guess I’m flattered.

Yeah, when I heard they named an American as pope, and his name was Leo, I was about to send you a congratulatory note.

It is interesting that Pope Leo will be known as Leo XIV – the 14th. In my story, Peter – the OG Pope – and the one I’ve associated with swampy Thomas B. Marsh, is number 14 of the remaining group to be gathered (82 down, 14 to go in Round 1).

    Number 14 like Pete Rose.

Ha, a congratulatory note would not be unwelcome. Believe me, I am getting lots of mileage out of this, especially with my kids. The really wild thing is we attended Mass for the first time ever this past Sunday. Just a few days later they name the Pope after me. What other possible explanation could there be?

Just leaving this comment here because I had mentioned Pete Rose.

Today, it was announced that Pete Rose was reinstated by the MLB and is now eligible for the Hall of Fame. Given the symbolism of Pete and how I used that before, I thought this was interesting timing.

In addition, Shoeless Joe Jackson was also reinstated, which makes this whole thing even cooler. Shoeless Joe was the central historical baseball figure in that Kevin Costner move “Field of Dreams” that I referenced several times. Costner’s character Ray built the baseball field specifically for Shoeless Joe. The famous line “If you build it, he will come” was first about Shoeless Joe returning, and then ultimately about Ray’s own father returning.

In my dreams, shoes have been a major symbol, and the lack of proper footwear or shoes have tied to the inability to walk somewhere, which is why Field of Dreams’ focus on a baseball player who was banned for doing something wrong (falsely, it turns out!) being described as shoeless was so interesting to me.

In any case, the fact that Rose and Shoeless Joe were the two baseball players reinstated on the same day seemed relevant, as was the fact that it followed only a few days after the announcement of Leo XIV as the new pope, who I compared with Rose above.

One last note – the word Fame means something like “good reputation” but its original root word means “to speak, talk”.

That’s funny, I didn’t know Shoeless Joe was acquitted but then banned anyway. The more I see and hear about this Pope Leo the more I like him. He seems like “a real one” as they say. Of course, I could very well just be falling for the latest psyop for all I know and maybe he’s just another imposter. At any rate, I like the omen of Pete and Joe finally getting back to the Hall of Fame.
