While reading the BoM today w the fam, my son suggested that the deadly serpents ancient Israel had to deal with were some type of dragon creature. I then noticed that Nephi describes them as having the ability to fly:
He sent fiery flying serpents among them and after they were bitten he prepared a way that they might be healed and the labor which they had to perform was to look!
But in the OT, the serpents are not described as possessing the ability to fly. Granted, Isaiah uses the exact same phrase as Nephi in a passage that *could* refer to the same incident but perhaps not. And also granted, the OT uses the Hebrew word for “seraphim” whenever it references these fiery serpents, winged or not. Here’s a primer on the subject if you’re interested: https://scripturecentral.org/knowhy/why-did-nephi-say-serpents-could-fly
Regardless, seeing Nephi’s reference to flight reminded me of the dream I had of seeing an ancient woman fight a small dragon/serpent to the death and it made me wonder if what I saw there was from that very event described in scripture. Those dragons could certainly be described as “fiery flying serpents”. If so, I hope the woman went to look at the brass serpent and was healed. I never actually saw her die, I just knew she was bitten and exposed to lethal poison. Given her courage and sacrifice, I have to think she would have been the type to go look at the staff of Moses.
