Another Rosary Update Despite Promises To The Contrary

After my last Rosary update I promised to get back into the BoM since that’s what this site is about, and here I am back to the Rosary instead. This will be short and then I really will get back to the BoM for at least 1 or 2 posts!

As I have said, finding a rosary to pray the Rosary has been a real challenge. I had just about determined to buy one on Etsy when WW suggested in a comment to make my own. I had been thinking of that idea already. And then my wife said the same thing. Alright, 3 witnesses I suppose. No angel or plates but I figured it was enough to go on. She offered to pick up some supplies at Hobby Lobby.

It was quite an ordeal to string it together since I am far from an expert at such tasks. In fact, I got so frustrated at one point that I was mentally composing a post directed at WW for giving me such bad advice. As a joke, of course, but I really was getting very frustrated and annoyed about it. And then my wife said

“you know they sell these for $9 with free shipping on Etsy, right?”

“no, dear, I did not know that.”

“do you know how much these supplies cost at Hobby Lobby?”

“I’m guessing I’d rather not know”

“It was a lot more than $9”

“—-“

“and it’s already strung together…these look really nice, too”

“—“

Well anyway, as I fumbled through it, suddenly it all just clicked and within a few more minutes I had a rosary in my hands.

Plus I’ve got enough supplies left over to make one more.

And now I’ll confess: I haven’t prayed the full Rosary for a week. I have (on most days) mentally recited a Decade or two while laying in bed to go to sleep. I can do a Decade from memory whereas the rest of it I still have to read. I’ll also tell you, I have not been in a great place mentally, emotionally, etc the past couple weeks. It started before I stopped the Rosary practice so I can’t draw a 1:1 here. And I have been uncommonly stressed/busy lately so I am inclined to attribute my unhappiness to that circumstance rather than the absence of Rosary prayers. Regardless, I will get back to more serious observance and see how things go.

Looks good! I may have to try constructing my own as well, if I can find suitable materials. As a rule, I think it’s best for sacred instruments to be made by the person who is going to use them, wherever possible.

That does look really, really good. Nice job.

So are you going to set up your own Etsy shop now?
